Welcome!

Nestled on a tree-lined street in a residential neighborhood, Beechtree Care Center is a not-for-profit, skilled nursing residence and rehabilitation center located in the heart of the Finger Lakes in downtown Ithaca, New York.

At Beechtree, you'll find a dedicated staff that partners with you, and your loved one, to achieve and maintain the highest quality of life possible. Every resident receives 24-hour skilled nursing care in a safe and stimulating environment. At Beechtree, every resident is treated with dignity and respect.

Home Away From Home. . .

A warm, inviting atmosphere greets you as you enter our residence. The receptionist welcomes you in a living room-like lobby, complete with a cozy sitting area near the fireplace - a favorite spot for residents to gather and visit.

Beechtree is conveniently located amidst a surprising array of cultural and entertainment opportunities. Our central location enables residents to gather together for outings to enjoy local activities and shopping at the nearby Ithaca Commons. The nearness of Cayuga Lake provides a place for picnics, and even a cruise on the lake every summer.

Cheerful common rooms, busy activity rooms, and open dining rooms provide space to socialize. Yet if your loved one seeks solitude, we also have quiet areas for reading, sitting, and private visits.

At Beechtree, we believe every day should be lived to its fullest. It is that belief that translates into a happy and active life for every resident who chooses to make Beechtree his or her home.

REHABILITATION
The Mary Hibbard Rehabilitation Wing

The Mary Hibbard Rehabilitation Wing at Beechtree Care Center offers a supportive environment for people who have experienced a disabling injury or illness. The Rehabilitation Wing was named in honor of our founder, Mary Hibbard, a pioneer in rehabilitation for children with polio and the source of our rich local history.

At rehab, staff works with residents to regain the highest level of function and independence possible.

Our experienced, fulltime rehabilitation professionals are dedicated to providing skilled and compassionate care using state-of-the-art equipment, individually-tailored therapy programs, and motivational skills on a daily basis.

Following a thorough evaluation by our team of physicians, nurses and therapists, a treatment plan is customized to meet each patient's needs and goals. Most individuals require a combination of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and skilled nursing care. Our interdisciplinary team approach includes incorporating meaningful daily activities into treatment plans, providing an integral link to achieving individual goals for recovery.

Prior to discharge a home visit by our rehabilitation team may be warranted to assess home safety and to make recommendations concerning patient care. Individuals who have reached their maximum rehabilitation potential yet are unable to safely return home will be offered permanent residency; a rehabilitation maintenance program to sustain strength and mobility may be recommended at this time.

Our ultimate goal is to help individuals return home to a quality, productive, healthy life.

SPECIAL CARE
Skilled Nursing & Alzheimer's/Dementia Care

Quality care is the heart of our mission and we are exceptionally proud of our dedicated staff. Our nurses use a team-oriented approach to provide the best possible delivery of care 24 hours a day. Mandatory, comprehensive in-service education programs are scheduled regularly to keep personnel up-to-date on new treatments, practices, preventative care, and safety procedures.

Our Medical Director and Associate Medical Director are responsible for the oversight of medical policies and procedures, and are available for emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Many services such as x-ray, dentistry, podiatry, audiology, psychiatry, psychology, and ophthalmology are readily available when necessary. We also maintain a transfer agreement with Cayuga Medical Center to provide immediate acute-level care if needed.

The Alzheimer's & Dementia Special Care Unit at Beechtree provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals with varying levels of dementia. Our mission is to provide mental, physical and emotional freedom for residents in the safest, least restrictive environment. Activities and exercise programs are specifically designed to help maintain strengths, abilities, and promote feelings of independence and personal dignity.

ACTIVITIES & SERVICES

Recreation
Keeping residents active and socially involved is an important component of the special care we provide. Social events and individual activities, both in and out of the home, are arranged under the supervision of an energetic Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Beth Coveney. The Recreation Department operates seven days a week providing programs for exercise, arts and crafts, cooking, reading, worship services, outings, movies and much more. Community and student volunteers, along with local service clubs, regularly bring new energy and ideas to the activities program.

Health & Safety
The safety and security of our residents is a vital component of the services we offer. Our home continually meets current fire and safety codes and undergoes regular evaluation. Entrances are locked at night, and an electronic monitoring system allows for a safe and secure environment for our residents and staff.

Dining at Beechtree
Upon admission, residents are interviewed to determine their food preferences. This information, along with physician directives, is used by our Registered Dietitian to plan each individual resident's diet. Kosher and other special diets can be easily accommodated and should be requested upon or prior to admission. Our dining staff pays a great deal of attention to food flavor and overall presentation with varied menus that include special events, holidays and themed meals. Mealtime provides an opportunity for residents to gather together to get to know each other, and socialize with guests and staff.
