Welcome to New York State Veterans' Home at Oxford
The New York State Veterans' Home at Oxford is a 242 bed facility located in Chenango County about thirty miles north of Binghamton NY. Situated on a sixty acre site, the Home has spectacular scenic views of rural countryland. We provide state of the art medical, nursing, psychosocial, and rehabilitative services to our residents. We also have several academic affiliations including the Upstate Medical Center College of Medicine/Clinical Campus at Binghamton.
The New York State Veterans' Homes are skilled nursing facilities owned and operated by the New York State Department of Health for veterans' and their dependents. We provide quality care to all eligible veterans' and their eligible dependents in need of skilled nursing care and rehabilitative services. We also conduct research in geriatrics and provide education and training for health care professionals.
Our Facilities
The NYS Veterans' Home resembles a small village with residential units opening off of a central mall. The mall serves as the "main street," housing everything from the library and Dining Hall to administrative offices, snack machines, the Beauty Shop, and more. Each nursing unit is named after a tree; such as "Oak", "Hawthorn", "Pine", "Maple", "Apple", and "Spruce". There is also a "Sprapple" unit located between Apple and Spruce Cottages.
Our campus is a special community providing security, services, and companionship for veterans and dependents. It's physically attractive grounds and accommodations, combined with a sincere atmosphere of caring, makes life at the Veterans' Home pleasant, enjoyable and comfortable.
Resident Rooms
Each of the Home's residential units feature single and/or double rooms with an adjoining bath. Single rooms can easily be converted into two-room suites for married couples. In double rooms, each occupant has a fully functional part of the room including a bay window, seating area, and closet space. For health and safety reasons, smoking is not permitted in resident rooms or most other areas of the facility. Designated smoking areas (indoors and outdoors) are provided. Each unit has a central courtyard where residents may garden or simply relax in the fresh air and sunshine. During good weather, it is common for residents to enjoy watching birds visit the birdfeeders. Each unit also contains lounges for TV watching and other quiet activities such as reading, playing cards, or computerized games. Internet services, including e-mail, are also available in the Library / Computer Lab.
