Guild Home for Aged Blind

The Guild Home for Aged Blind is a residential health care facility for elderly people with a broad range of vision loss. It offers comprehensive medical, nursing and rehabilitative services for long-term residents as well as persons requiring short-term rehabilitation. Professional staff members, including medical doctors, registered nurses, certified social workers, nutritionists, rehabilitation specialists and staff psychiatrists provide assessment, consultations and counseling services. The primary focus of the Guild Home is to help individuals maximize their potential while enabling them to live as independently as possible.

What We Offer

The Guild Home offers comprehensive medical, nursing and rehabilitative services on a long-term basis as well as short-term rehabilitative care, including:

Comprehensive Skilled Nursing Care - We offer round-the-clock skilled nursing care, with a full-time nurse practitioner on staff.

Medical Coverage by Staff Physicians - Our physicians provide diagnostic and treatment services and continue to follow up on residents who may require hospitalization.

On-Site Consulting Medical Specialists - In addition to primary medical care, we offer on-site consultation in all medical specialties to our residents.

Vision Rehabilitation - We provide comprehensive examinations that allow clinicians to evaluate a resident's eyesight to determine what optical devices might be helpful.

Social Work Services - Our registered social workers are advocates for residents and their families, on issues ranging from the coordination of long-term care to discharge planning for short-term residents.

A Unique Environment
Located on an attractively landscaped 11-acre campus, the Guild Home offers a safe, supportive environment that has been specifically designed to meet the needs of its visually impaired residents. The park-like grounds are accessible to residents via rail-lined walks that invite strolling in all seasons.

Specialized Services

The Guild Home includes two additional facilities, each a unique center for specialized care: The Newman Center for Alzheimer Care and the Felkay Center for AIDS Care.

The Newman Center for Alzheimer Care is a 26-bed skilled nursing center providing a therapeutic environment with an emphasis on dignified living for people with Alzheimer's Disease or a related dementia. For more information, please call 914-220-8611 or e-mail alzheimerinfo@jgb.org

Stimulating Activities

Daily activities are designed to bring enjoyment and pleasure to the Guild Home's residents. Residents can participate in activities such as gardening, sewing, weaving, ceramics, painting, cooking, choral singing, games and special entertainment. In addition to activities at the Guild Home, there are trips to surrounding communities for social events, religious services and educational events.
