Skilled Nursing

The Eastern Star Home is located in Oriskany, strategically located between Utica and Rome, 8 miles west of Exit 31 and 6 miles north of Exit 32 on the New York State Thruway. It was established in 1908 and all through the years has been a symbol of love, concern, and caring. The residents are provided with the highest quality of care, in combination with the love and the true meaning of being part of a wonderful “family”.

Our Nursing Home is now open to the public, with preference given to Eastern Star Members and Masonic members.

We have 84 New York State certified skilled nursing beds to accommodate those who require full-time medical and nursing care. We have registered and licensed practical nurses on the premises around the clock. Our Medical Director visits the Home twice a week for his regular visits and our Staff Physician has an office within the Nursing Home; both are on-call 24 hours per day for emergencies. We also have a Staff Podiatrist and Staff Dentist who offer their services in our fully equipped treatment rooms as well as a Staff Psychiatrist and Psychologist. In addition, our resident care includes IV hydration, gastro tube feeding, colostomy care, wound and skin care prevention and restoration and restorative nursing therapy. Our rehabilitation services include occupational and physical therapy, short term and long term maintenance programs, speech therapy, dysphagia evaluations, as well as individualized treatment sessions including adaptive equipment and customized splinting. Our goal is to help each of our residents meet their highest practical level of function and maintain their self-esteem and dignity.

We have a planned therapeutic recreation/activity program and they strive to add to the enjoyment of all. We have a 7 day per week schedule with evening programming as well. We have resident oriented activities, birthday and holiday parties, ceramics, movies, bingo, pet therapy, monthly outings, trips to local shopping areas and restaurants, arts and crafts, coordinated events with other local nursing homes, exercise and stimulation, and one-on-one activities. We also sponsor our Intergenerational Program, which involves the children of our Day Care Center (located here on our Campus) with their “Grandparents” at the Nursing Home.

Our Social Services Department advocates for residents and their families, attends to the daily affairs of the residents and assures their social well-being and facilitates full discharge planning if needed.

The Nursing Home is fully air-conditioned and all private and semi-private rooms are beautifully furnished but a new resident is encouraged to bring a favorite chair, television, pictures, and any special item that will provide comfort and happiness. Personal laundry services are provided on the premises. There is a beauty salon on the premises to attend to our residents’ needs on a personal basis. Residents will enjoy nutritious, appetizing and enjoyable meals in our beautiful dining room. A daily restaurant style menu is offered for each resident’s selection. We also have a licensed dietitian on staff who will assure our residents receive therapeutic, special or prescribed diets as per each individual’s needs.

We encourage family participation and welcome visitors at any time between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Guest rooms for out-of-town visitors are available by arrangement in Pounder Hall, a separate building on the grounds of the Campus.
