SERVICES AND AMENITIES
Rehabilitative Services
The Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center offers excellence in comprehensive rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities to reach their fullest potential and to facilitate their transition from Baptist Health to family and community. The rehabilitation multi-disciplinary team provides state-of-the-art care for the resident's physical and psycho-social needs.
- Physical Therapy
Our experienced physical therapists design individual exercise and treatment programs to restore strength, flexibility, and endurance. A wide range of therapeutic treatmensts is emphasized to improve circulation, strengthen muscles, improve balance and encourage the highest level of functional mobility. While at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, staff works closely with the resident to stimulate and progress to achieve their maximum level of independent function. When it's possible for the resident to return home, the staff works closely with the family to ensure a smooth transition. Home evaluations are done to assess the need for any modifications, equipment and/or services prior to discharge.
- Occupational Therapy
Residents who require the services of Occupational Therapy will be trained in "skills for the job of living." Each resident is evaluated upon admission to determine the potential to reduce dependence in self-care activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming and eating. Therapists will provide and train residents in the use of special equipment to make daily activities easier. Home visits prior to discharge will help determine equipment or modifications that will make discharge safer. Family teaching helps with successful discharge and ways to cope with dementia. At times, special positioning devices are fabricated to prevent deformity or restore function. Our goal is to help the resident attain the highest degree of independence possible if, going home, or staying at our facility for long term care.
- Speech Therapy
Residents with communication and/or swallowing disorders arising from neurological damage, commonly caused by disabilities such as stroke and head trauma, are evaluated and treated by our Speech and Language Pathologist, Diane Grabo. She is known as an innovative leader and valued resource in the area of speech pathology throughout The Capital Region. Individual treatment programs are developed at Baptist to improve the use of language.
Dining
Who doesn't love a great meal? At Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center we know how important delicious, well presented food is! Nutritious, well balanced meals are planned by a registered dietitian and prepared by a skilled chef and cooks. We feature a Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter seasonal menu which is updated with new menu items on a four week cycle. All residents have a choice of either the featured entree daily or an alternate entree at lunch and dinner. Three meals are served daily with a wide assortment of snacks and other nutrition as needed and desired. Complimentary Guest Trays are available for spouses for the lunch and dinner meal. Additional Guest Trays can be purchased through the Dietary Office for $6.00 for lunch or $4.00 for dinner. Special diets can, and are, accomodated for many of our residents. While we are not a kosher kitchen, we can accomodate many specific requests
During the warmer weather everyone looks forward to barbecues on our serene and cozy outdoor patio. Family members may bring in homemade food items for their resident as long as they are clearly labeled. Unfortunately Department of Health regulations don't allow the sharing of homemade food items with others.
An elegant family dining room may be reserved for special occasion dining and can accomodate parties up to 10.
Media
Our lending library has new books delivered on a regular basis, and if a literary request can't be accomodated internally, our affiliation with The Schenectady County Library makes sure that residents can get the books they desire. Baptist subscribes to "Senior TV" and maintains its own in-house television channel to provide residents with the latest information, menus, and daily activities. Cable television is also available as well as internet access. We do have computers available in common areas should residents desire to use them.
Gift Shop
The Gift Shop is a gathering place offering residents, staff, and visitors an interesting inventory of hand crafted items, gifts and cards, as well as various personal and incidental items, snacks and beverages.
Personal Touches
Residents have the option of scheduling standing or occasional appointments with in-house hair stylists. For residents' convenience, a shopping service periodically comes to Baptist Health with a wide selection of comfortable and attractive clothing, shoes, and accessories. Laundry services are on premise for our residents and their families convenience.
Spiritual
The chaplaincy program at BHNRC seeks to provide for the religious and spiritual needs of each resident and family in a manner that ensures respect for their own tradition and preferences. We recognize that a variety of denominational and interfaith backgrounds are represented and therefore seek to reflect that diversity in a way that promotes meaningful spiritual growth and practice.
Activities
From field trips, parties and concerts, to arts and crafts, woodworking and baking, people associated with Baptist have a choice of many activities. The Activities Department plans and arranges programs based on individual and group interests and events. Discussion groups, sing-alongs, gardening, exercise sessions, games, intergenerational programs, church groups, and even visits by pets trained to interact as therapy animals are happy occasions scheduled to provide fun and entertainment. Residents share in developing and shaping the program aspects of the Center through the Resident Council.
